"To see a world in a grain of sand
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
And eternity in an hour."
Auguries of Innocence, William Blake

I've created so many worlds for role playing games that they are like grains of sand. And I will create many more before I'm done I s'pose. I've got so much stuff lying around that I've decided to put a bunch of it out there for anyone that's interested.

A Mamphibian Decked out in clothes and weapons

Thursday, January 7, 2016

Some stuff I've been playing with:

Mamphibians

Mamphibians are a genetic mixture of frog, toad, salamander and various

mammals. They are the descendants of Genetic Lab Experiments from the distant

past. Could be used for Mutant Future, Gamma World, Carcosa, D&D etc.

They worship the "Splicers" who created them. They live in cool damp caverns

underground. On the rare times they venture to the surface they must wear loose

robes well-wetted down and thick darkened goggles.

There are three types of mamphibians, Perfects, Uglies, and mulespawn. Male

Perfects are wildly colored anthropomorphic frogs. Female perfects are six

breasted and drab olive colored. Females do not speak but they can croak very

loudly. 20% of mamphibians are born as "Uglies", primarily anthropomorphic frogs

with random features derived from their mammalian genes.

Mamphibians can crossbreed with mammals and produce sterile offspring with

bizarre physical attributes. These are called Mulespawn. Mulespawn are produced

by crossing male mammals with female Mamphibians. Mamphibians. I love saying

Mamphibians! Mulespawn are 50% father species, 30% Mamphibian and 20 %

random mammal. Use the handy-dandy chart below to determine which part is

what.

Overall appearance is 50/50 male or female but Mulespawn are sterile. Mulespawn

from a combination of Mamphibians and another sapient creature (like a human or

alien or fantasy or scifi mammal) are sapient themselves but are only capable of

speech if their heads and necks are those of a creature capable of speech. E.G. If a

Mulespawn has a Tiger's head it will not be able to speak.

Mamphibians ornate weapons and tools are carved from bone and stone.

Mamphibians weave cord and cloth from the mosses they carefully cultivate.

A typical Mamphibian colony:

Males Quarters - Nests of moss decorated with shiny baubles.

Craft stations are clusters of workbenches, tools and materials for carving bone &

stone, weaving moss cloth and various other types of crafts.

The females generally stay in the female's pools or at their work in the farms,

unless summoned by a male for breeding purposes.

The Splice labs are where Mulespawn are created. The most intelligent of the male

Mamphibians are selected to be "Labteks" and learn to use the tools and methods

inheritied from their creators, the "Splicers"

The breeding pits are where the males drag the females to breed.

The fish ponds, insectariums, centipede & millipede farms are where the females

raise the Mamphibian's food.

Foyer - where visitors are dealt with, usually fatally. Visitors are often kept in order

to utilise their genetic potential in the Splice lab, and then dispatched and fed to the

centipedes and millipedes.

Guard Post - a squad of 10 Mamphibian warriors is on guard at all times.

x - indicates escape routes, twisting narrow tunnels many miles long, with

multitudinous traps - pits, snares, spikes, deadfalls etc. The routes lead to secret

entrances to the underdark. The Mamphibians have a predesignated rendezvous

point which they will die before revealing.

 So this is ready now:

I've uploaded it to DTRPG and it should be available in a day or two. In the meantime here's the illustration I made for the back cover:

And there are lots more inside. As a bonus here's the map I made for this book:
